Le Tote: June 2013 Review

Le Tote IntroductionSubscription boxes for clothing absolutely fascinate me, and I’ve been wanting to try one for a while. And, I know I’m not alone. I get asked about it all the time! So, when the folks at Le Tote wanted me to try out their service for one month, I was stoked! They even said they had a coupon code I could share with readers. DOUBLE BONUS!

Now… if you followed my “Le Tote et Le Coupon Code” post, you know that it wasn’t an easy journey. We just couldn’t get their coupon codes to work! They kept saying they were having technical difficulties, but I was pretty frustrated because it made me look like a schmuck to readers. I’m not about giving out bad information. So, this definitely wasn’t a good first impression.

As this coupon code saga wears on, I am currently being told LOVETOTES11 will work and should be entered when signing in and when checking out. It will serve as your invitation code and give you a free Le Tote tote bag with the purchase of a subscription. I went to try it out myself, and while I find it works as an invitation code, when it’s entered at check out, there’s no designation that you’ll receive a free tote bag. Though, from what I’ve heard from those who went onward anyway, the tote bag is included when they receive their Le Tote box.

In the midst of all this coupon code craziness, I was having one of the most hellish weeks at work ever. So, when I got home from the office and saw that Le Tote box on my doorstep, I grabbed a glass of wine and decided to indulge myself.

I’ve been describing Le Tote as the “Netflix of fashion.” After completing a style profile, you’ll receive 3 garments and 2 accessories for a flat rate of $49.00/month. You can keep the items as long as you want and then send them back when you’re ready for something new. In love with one item and want to keep it forever and ever? You can buy what you want and send back what you don’t. And, you don’t have to worry about washing everything or paying for shipping. Le Tote takes care of that.

In the Le Tote box I received:

  • Naked Zebra | Pleated Tank Top
  • Peach Love Cream | Strapless Maxi Dress
  • Blvd | Lace Tank Top
  • Le Tote | Ring & Bracelet
  • Le Tote | Tote Bag
  • Naked Wines | $50 Wine Gift Card

This pleated tank top was the first thing I put on out of the box. I’m not sure what the fabric is, but it’s definitely my style. You don’t see it in the photo, but it also has buttons up the back, which are super cute. I paired it with some blue twill skinny pants and beige flats. It was great for a Friday at work, followed by fun with my in-laws.

I was able to find a similar tank top at Naked Zebra’s online store. But, it’s not exactly the same. Which, is no biggie to me, but I wanted to you to be able to examine the value.

I LOVED this dress! It’s super cute, comfortable and fit perfectly. Overall, I was really impressed with Le Tote’s ability to find clothes that fit. I paired the dress with a jean cropped jacket and some dressy black flip-flops. The bracelet included in the box from Le Tote also matched perfectly. So, I sported that as well. I had plans to usher a play and I wore this to the theater and cast party afterward. It was perfect for the occasion, and I wore this same ensemble to work this week.

The tag on the dress says its made by Peach Love Cream. From what I can tell, this is a wholesale brand without an online store for the average joe. I had a hard time finding a similar dress, but the one from Mod Cloth had the same kind of feel.

Unfortunately, this top just doesn’t cut it for me. When I first saw it, I thought it would be okay. I have a similar lacy top with sleeves, so I definitely like that lace look. But, when I put this on, the top felt sooo matronly. When I styled it  with some gray twill pants, it didn’t look as bad. But, it was definitely a disappointment. I didn’t wear this out anywhere, but I had to try it out for purely experimental purposes!

The top from Mod Cloth is a near perfect match. I couldn’t find any information on Blvd as a brand, but it appears to be made beautifully and worth the $30.00 purchase price Le Tote is asking for.

The complimentary Le Tote bag was a nice touch. I’ll certainly use it, especially when going to the beach. This is that extra treat you’re supposed to get with the coupon code we had all that trouble with. The value of tote bags in general range widely, but Le Tote says it’s valued at $25.00. I found several similar styles with similar values, so I’ll roll with it.

I really liked the bracelet, and in addition to the maxi dress sent, it’ll go with several other items in my wardrobe. The ring is another matter. I really didn’t care for the style or quality. It’s made from that really light-weight metal you find in some faux jewelry. I paired it with the lace top I didn’t like, because together they make the ultimate matron of the manor combo.

Le Tote WineNaked Wines | $50 Wine Gift Card
Full Size Value: $50.00

I thought it was a wonderful coincidence that I popped open a bottle of wine to enjoy my Le Tote and found a gift card for wine inside! While it seemed kind of unusual, it certainly was a pleasant surprise! The inclusion of this gift card alone is enough to make up for the cost of the box. I got one of these in my Conscious Box and while using them together would score me some serious wine… it’s my mom’s birthday this month and I think she’d really enjoy this! So, I’ll probably gift it to her instead! Which helps me out immensely!

The Verdict
Cost: $49.00/month

Value: ??

It’s hard to put a value on something like this. To me, it seems like it’s worth it, because you get to enjoy a variety of styles every month that you may not have picked out for yourself. Great for the adventurous spirit! And like Netflix, Blockbuster or any other place you rent items from, it’s always going to cost you more to actually purchase one of the rented items compared to going out and buying the item new yourself. While I appreciate the option to keep one of the items without penalty, purchasing one of the rented pieces is not necessarily the most economical way to go.

The value is really in the convenience and variety. It’s just kind of fun to have someone pick out clothes for you and send them to you. I also really like not being pressured to send them back by a certain date. As long as you keep paying the monthly rate, you can enjoy the clothes and jewelry as long as you want! To me, I’d want to send them back as soon as I was done wearing them so I could enjoy something new!

I also like that you can send feedback into Le Tote, so if there’s something you don’t like, they can adjust the styles they send you next time around. I’d be really curious to see if Le Tote is able to take my feedback and improve the box next month.

Overall, the quality of the clothing was very nice and presented beautifully. And it really was like ice cream after a long day at work. As far as clothing subscription boxes go, this one would be what I consider one of the most affordable. While you get to keep items in other clothing subscription boxes, this one allows you to enjoy a variety of styles and multiple looks at a fairly affordable price.

I did feel the quality of the ring was lacking, but that was the greatest downfall. The only other negative was the whole technical situation with the coupon code. Ugh! What a mess! In addition to having troubles with the coupon code, I also heard reports that readers had trouble signing in and accessing their accounts. I know Le Tote is working on updating their website, so I would be curious to try it out again once all the kinks are worked out.

Have you tried Le Tote? Will you be using the LOVETOTES11 coupon code to get the free Le Tote tote bag? Share your thoughts and let me know what you think!

Can you also do a post on CoutureSqd? They are a similar service at $35/month that I’ve heard a lot of good things about.
