When I set out to create a blog about subscription boxes, I vowed to try one from every category. The one I was pretty nervous to try to write about was the “Sexy and Sultry Subscription Boxes.” So when the team at The Fantasy Box reached out to me and offered to send me their Essentials Box to review, my immediate reaction was panic. This was the perfect opportunity to try one and review it, but was I going to have the balls to write about it? And, you know what, I guess I do!
Before we get started… I’ve got a great coupon code if you want to try The Fantasy Box for yourself. They offer monthly and bimonthly subscriptions that range from $34-$159 per box, and each contains everything you need for a unique, sexy experience at home with your partner and coupon code JLP2013 will get you 20% off your first one!
So, here we go.
In checking out The Fantasy Box’s website, I kind of like how they present themselves. They aim to create experiences that are fun and sexy and build trust and communication. When I saw their “What We’re Not” list, I immediately took a sigh of relief. I was happy to read that they’re not about porn or making you feel trashy, shameful or embarrassed.
The Fantasy Box says they’ve got something for everyone, no matter where you’re at in your relationship. They explain it like this on their website:
We wanted to create a service that…does something positive – makes people happy, helps people grow closer, fulfills fantasies, improves existing intimacy, and even potentially fixes failing, but worthwhile relationships. If you will, Consider us a form of ‘monogamy insurance’. From pre-emptively adding fun to an already exciting sex life, to delivering a form of communicative therapy when things are in a state of decline, anyone can enjoy The Fantasy Box.
Now, when you open up the box there are several instruction cards that say you shouldn’t look inside before you’re ready to actually use what’s included. Basically, there’s a “no peeking” rule. But here’s the thing, I had to take photos for the blog, so I couldn’t follow the instructions exactly.
The introduction card explained that I should plan a romantic dinner, before which my hubby and I were to each fill out the included “sex survey.” Over dinner, we were to discuss our responses. This portion of the experience pays off The Fantasy Box’s goal of trying to help couples communicate about sex. The introduction card then went on to explain part two of the experience. There were two other cards included labeled “The Leader” and “The Follower.” Together they set up a roll-playing scenario that takes you and your partner through how to use the items included.
So, I know you’re dying to know. What all was included?
- Rene Rofe Push-Up Babydoll with Thong
- Satin Blindfold
- Sliquid Organics Natural Gel
- Ovo® W1 Bullet
Rene Rofe Push-Up Babydoll with Thong
Estimated Cost: $23.00
I knew there was a possibility of some kind of lingerie being included, but I really didn’t expect a full outfit! I thought maybe a pair of underwear, but this is a full number! I couldn’t find out much about the brand, but it is sold at department stores like Sears. It was kind of hard to determine the value, because I couldn’t find the exact item, but I made an estimate based on Rene Rofe’s other pieces. The quality seems decent enough and it’s certainly in line with other affordable lingerie brands.
Full Size Cost: $5.99

Now, no sexy box is complete without a satin blindfold right? This item is actually the foundation for this box’s experience. Deciding who will wear it also determines who is going to play “The Follower” and who is going to play “The Leader.” I couldn’t find the exact brand to determine value, but I think I found a comparable one!
Sliquid Organics Natural Gel
Sample Value: $0.99
Full Size Cost: $11.99
Buy at Drugstore.com
This is a cute little sample, and the only non-full sized item in the box. After checking out Sliquid on Drugstore.com, I learned they have a wide variety of products and each is free of DEA, gluten, glycerine, glycerol, parabens, PEG, propylene glycol, sorbitol and sulfates. It’s even 100% vegan friendly, which I guess if you’re vegan would be good to know. Do they really make these kind of products not vegan? If you’re a vegan and in the market for something like this, is that a concern? I guess if it’s edible… ha! Kind of fascinating!
Ovo® W1 Bullet
Full Size Cost: $13.99
Buy at Drugstore.com
There’s a vibrator in my box. That’s what she said. Sorry, I couldn’t resist!
I knew immediately from Ovo’s website that this was a “lifestyle toy.” Specifically… it’s a bullet vibrator. I knew there was bound to be some kind of sexy toy in The Fantasy Box, but I was happy that it wasn’t something too crazy or over the top. Ovo has a lot of info available on their website, so if you’re inclined and want to know more. You can read about it here.
For my first foray into “Sexy and Sultry Subscription Boxes,” I am happy it was with The Fantasy Box. It kept things interesting without going over the top or making you feel uncomfortable. I like how they encourage multiple aspects of a couple’s sex life, including communication and intimacy, not just “the deed” itself.
So, did The Fantasy Box pique your interest? Ready to try it out yourself? Use coupon code JLP2013 to save 20% off your first box and give it a go! Would love to hear what everyone else thinks about it!
